About international admissions exams
For students applying to universities abroad, admissions tests are a core part of the file. The Digital SAT supports undergraduate applications, chiefly to the United States, while the GRE is the standard graduate-admissions test for master's and doctoral programmes across many countries and disciplines.
Both have moved to adaptive, computer-based formats that adjust difficulty as you go, testing verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and, in the SAT's case, evidence-based reading and writing. Scores are reported on their own scales and are read alongside your transcript, essays and recommendations — so a strong score opens doors but rarely stands alone.
Because these tests reward familiarity with the adaptive format and question style as much as content, realistic, timed practice is the most efficient way to lift your score band.

How to prepare for international admissions exams
Get comfortable with the adaptive format
Both the Digital SAT and GRE adapt to your performance. Practise in the on-screen, timed format so the real test feels familiar, not surprising.
Build a strong vocabulary and quant base
Verbal sections reward vocabulary and careful reading; quantitative sections reward clean fundamentals and mental math. Balance both in your prep.
Review every practice section
Score gains come from analysing mistakes, not just taking more tests. Categorise your errors and target the recurring ones.
International Admissions exams — frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the GRE and the SAT?
The Digital SAT is an undergraduate-admissions test, taken mainly by high-school students applying to bachelor's programmes. The GRE is a graduate-admissions test for master's and doctoral applicants. They differ in level, structure and scoring, though both are adaptive and computer-based.
Are these tests adaptive?
Yes. The Digital SAT and the current GRE both use section-adaptive formats, adjusting question difficulty based on your performance. Practising in a realistic timed environment helps you get used to pacing and the on-screen tools.
Do I also need an English-proficiency test?
Often, yes. Many universities require an English-proficiency test such as IELTS or TOEFL in addition to the SAT or GRE, especially for non-native English speakers. See the English Proficiency category for those exams.
