NEET UG has 180 questions — 45 each from Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology — for a total of 720 marks. Every correct answer earns +4 marks and every incorrect answer loses 1 mark, while unattempted questions are not penalised.

You must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English, scoring at least 50% in PCB for the General category (45% for General-PwD and 40% for reserved categories). The minimum age is 17 years as on 31 December of the admission year, and there is currently no upper age limit or cap on the number of attempts.

It varies by category, state and year, but as a recent-cycle guide a score around 600+ (an All India Rank near 7,000–8,000, roughly the 99.6 percentile) puts most General-category candidates in contention for a government MBBS seat, while top national institutes such as AIIMS Delhi close within the first hundred ranks. Reserved-category cut-offs are lower. Always confirm against the year's official counselling data.

Every medical, dental, AYUSH, veterinary and allied college in India admits undergraduates through NEET — including AIIMS and JIPMER institutes, government and private medical colleges, deemed and central universities, and the armed forces medical services. Seats are filled through 15% All India Quota counselling by the MCC and 85% State Quota counselling by individual states.

There is no limit on the number of NEET attempts as per the latest NTA rules. Many successful candidates take a focused drop year, so a second or third attempt is common and does not disadvantage you in counselling.

Start with topic-wise tests to build accuracy in one area at a time, then move to full-length 180-question mocks under the real 200-minute clock. After each mock, review the analysis to separate knowledge gaps from careless errors, and re-drill the weak topics before your next attempt — consistent, analysed practice is what moves your rank.
