Digital SAT Mock Tests, Syllabus & Complete Exam Guide

The SAT, run by the College Board, is one of the most widely used undergraduate admissions tests. Since 2024 it is delivered fully digitally through the Bluebook app: shorter than the old paper test at about two hours, taken on a computer or tablet, and 'stage-adaptive' rather than the same for everyone. It has two sections — Reading and Writing, and Math — each scored 200–800 for a combined 400–1600.

The digital format changes how the test feels. Reading and Writing uses many short passages with a single question each, rather than long passages with many questions, and the Math section allows an embedded Desmos graphing calculator throughout. Because there is no negative marking, every question is worth attempting, and the adaptive design means the second module of each section adjusts to how you did on the first.

Each section is split into two equal modules. Everyone takes the same first module; based on that performance, the second module is either a higher- or lower-difficulty set. This is why two students answering the same number of questions can earn different scores — the difficulty of the questions you reach is part of the measurement. Reading and Writing covers four areas (Information and Ideas, Craft and Structure, Expression of Ideas, and Standard English Conventions); Math covers Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, and Geometry and Trigonometry.

Because the exam rewards familiarity with its specific, tightly-timed question styles — short-passage reading, transitions and grammar 'conventions', and multiple-choice plus student-produced-response math — timed, exam-style practice is the most efficient way to raise your score. Rehearsing the pacing (about 71 seconds per Reading and Writing question and 95 seconds per Math question) is as important as the content itself.
