About engineering exams
The engineering track covers two very different milestones. JEE Main (and Advanced) is the gateway to undergraduate B.Tech admission at the NITs, IIITs and IITs, testing Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at a demanding but school-rooted level. GATE, at the other end, is a postgraduate and recruitment exam whose score opens M.Tech admission, PSU recruitment and research fellowships.
Both are computer-based and heavily time-pressured, and both mix conceptual depth with speed. JEE Main includes numerical-value questions alongside MCQs, and GATE blends one- and two-mark questions with a General Aptitude section — nuances our test players reproduce faithfully, including the numerical (non-MCQ) input mode.
Because a single mark can move you thousands of ranks, engineering aspirants benefit most from full-length, section-timed practice that builds both accuracy and the stamina to stay sharp across a three-hour paper.
Engineering exams on ExamguruX
Each exam has its own hub with full-length mocks on the official pattern, topic-wise tests, and a complete guide to syllabus, eligibility, marking and cut-offs.
How to prepare for engineering exams
Master concepts, then speed
Both JEE and GATE reward conceptual clarity first; only once the fundamentals are solid does timed practice convert them into rank-worthy speed.
Drill numerical-answer questions
Numerical-value questions carry no options to guess from — practise them separately so you're comfortable computing and entering exact answers under time pressure.
Simulate the full paper
Take complete mocks under the real clock to build three-hour focus and to learn which sections to attempt first for the best marks-per-minute.
Engineering exams — frequently asked questions
What is the difference between JEE Main and GATE?
JEE Main is an undergraduate entrance exam for B.Tech admission, taken after Class 12, testing Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. GATE is a postgraduate-level exam for engineering graduates that opens M.Tech admission, PSU recruitment and fellowships, testing a chosen engineering discipline plus aptitude and engineering mathematics.
Do these exams have numerical-answer questions?
Yes. Both JEE Main and GATE include numerical-value questions where you type the answer instead of choosing an option. Our test player supports this input mode, and GATE's no-negative-marking on numerical questions is reflected in the scoring.
How many mock tests should I take before the exam?
Quality matters more than quantity, but most successful candidates take at least 20–30 full-length mocks in the final months, analysing each one to fix recurring errors. ExamguruX gives you full-length and topic-wise sets for exactly this.
