COMEDK UGET sample questions

A few real COMEDK UGET questions with answers and step-by-step solutions, in the exact style of the full mock tests.

PhysicsSample 1

A body of mass 2 kg moves with a speed of 3 m/s. Its kinetic energy is:

  • A.3 J
  • B.9 J
  • C.6 J
  • D.18 J

Solution: KE = (1/2) m v^2 = (1/2) x 2 x 3^2 = (1/2) x 2 x 9 = 9 J.

ChemistrySample 2

The number of moles present in 36 g of water (molar mass 18 g/mol) is:

  • A.1 mol
  • B.2 mol
  • C.3 mol
  • D.0.5 mol

Solution: Moles = mass / molar mass = 36 / 18 = 2 mol.

MathematicsSample 3

The sum of the roots of the equation x^2 - 7x + 12 = 0 is:

  • A.7
  • B.12
  • C.-7
  • D.5

Solution: For ax^2 + bx + c = 0, the sum of the roots is -b/a = -(-7)/1 = 7.

About the COMEDK UGET exam

A state-level entrance test for admission to undergraduate engineering (B.E./B.Tech) programmes in the private engineering colleges that are members of the COMEDK consortium in Karnataka. Merit ranks from the test feed a centralised online counselling process.

What is the COMEDK UGET?

COMEDK UGET is the Undergraduate Entrance Test conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka for admission to the undergraduate engineering (B.E./B.Tech) seats in its member private colleges across Karnataka. It is a computer-based test taken by candidates from Karnataka and other states, since COMEDK seats are open across India. A single, normalised score from the test decides a merit rank, and that rank is what candidates carry into counselling.

The paper is a 3-hour, 180-question test with three equal sections — Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics — of 60 questions each, one mark per question. Crucially, there is no negative marking, which changes strategy: because a wrong answer costs nothing, you should attempt every question rather than leave any blank. After results, admission happens through a centralised online counselling round where seats are allotted on the basis of rank, branch and college preferences, category and availability.

How to prepare for COMEDK

The COMEDK syllabus closely follows the 11th and 12th standard Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics curriculum, so a strong hold on the school and PUC textbooks is the foundation. Physics rewards clear concepts in mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity, magnetism, optics and modern physics; Chemistry needs balanced attention to physical, inorganic and organic topics; Mathematics rewards fluency in algebra, matrices, trigonometry, calculus, coordinate geometry and vectors.

Because there is no negative marking, accuracy matters but attempting fully matters more — never leave a question blank when a considered guess is free. The three sections carry equal weight, so avoid a weak subject: a balanced, all-round score usually produces a better rank than a lopsided one. Full-length timed mocks build the stamina and pacing the 3-hour paper needs, and reviewing the worked solution for every question you miss steadily converts weak topics into reliable marks.

COMEDK UGET eligibility & exam pattern

Check whether you meet the COMEDK UGET eligibility criteria and understand exactly how the paper is structured and marked before you plan your preparation.

Eligibility criteria

Qualification
Passed the 2nd PUC or 12th standard (or equivalent) with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Electronics or Computer Science.
Minimum marks
Generally at least 45% aggregate in the qualifying subjects for the general category (40% for reserved categories in Karnataka), as specified in the notification.
Age
The candidate should have completed or be about to complete the age specified in the official notification; there is normally no upper age limit for the engineering test.
Appearing candidates
Students awaiting their 12th/2nd PUC results may also apply, subject to producing the passing marks at the time of admission.
Domicile
Both Karnataka and non-Karnataka candidates may appear, as COMEDK seats are open to candidates across India.
Attempts
There is no fixed limit on the number of attempts, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria each year.

The COMEDK UGET is a single computer-based paper of 180 objective questions carrying 180 marks, to be answered in 3 hours. It has three sections of 60 questions each — Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics — and every question carries 1 mark. There is no negative marking, so a wrong answer does not cost you anything and it always pays to attempt every question. The syllabus is broadly at the 11th and 12th standard (PUC/CBSE) level. Raw scores are normalised and used to assign a COMEDK merit rank; admission to the member private engineering colleges then takes place through a centralised online counselling process based on that rank, your branch and college preferences, category and seat availability. On ExamguruX, each question is scored +1 with no penalty for a wrong answer, mirroring the real marking, and every question comes with a worked solution.

Duration: 3 hours.

How to prepare for COMEDK UGET

A proven, focused COMEDK UGET preparation method — from building strong fundamentals to peaking with full-length mocks.

  1. 1

Master the 11th and 12th syllabus

COMEDK sticks closely to the PUC/CBSE Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics curriculum. Build concepts directly from the standard textbooks before moving to problem practice.

  2. 2

    Keep all three sections balanced

Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics carry 60 marks each. A single weak subject drags your rank down, so aim for an even, all-round score rather than a lopsided one.

  3. 3

    Attempt every question

With no negative marking, a wrong answer costs nothing. Never leave a question blank — make your best considered choice on anything you cannot fully solve.

  4. 4

    Drill speed and accuracy together

180 questions in 3 hours is roughly a minute each. Practise timed sets so you can solve familiar problems quickly and leave time for the tougher ones.

  5. 5

    Use full-length mocks

Take complete, timed mocks to learn section balance and pacing under the real 3-hour clock, and review the worked solution for every question you miss.

  6. 6

    Revise formulae and reactions regularly

Maintain a running sheet of key physics formulae, chemical reactions and maths identities, and revise it often so recall is quick and automatic in the exam.

COMEDK UGET scoring & rank

The COMEDK UGET has 180 questions for 180 marks — 60 each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, one mark per question, with no negative marking. Your raw score is normalised and used to assign a merit rank, and admission then happens through a centralised online counselling round based on that rank, your preferences, category and seat availability. The bands below are indicative only — real cut-offs move every year with candidate numbers, seats and difficulty.
