MHT CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) is the state-level entrance exam conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Government of Maharashtra, for admission to first-year undergraduate courses in engineering, technology, pharmacy and agriculture across the state. Engineering and technology aspirants take the PCM group, whose Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics scores feed into the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) that allots seats in Maharashtra's government, aided and private colleges.

The PCM test is computer-based and split into two papers: a combined Physics and Chemistry paper of 100 one-mark questions in 90 minutes, and a Mathematics paper of 50 two-mark questions in another 90 minutes — 200 marks in all. Crucially, there is no negative marking, so accuracy and completion both matter. The question paper is set on the Maharashtra State Board Class 11 and 12 syllabus, with about 20% weightage to Class 11, which makes disciplined board-level preparation the backbone of a good score.

Because MHT CET closely follows the Maharashtra State Board syllabus, your school textbooks are the single most important resource — master every derivation, reaction and theorem in the Class 11 and 12 books before turning to reference material. Since there is no negative marking, plan to attempt every question: make a first pass on the ones you are sure of, then return to the harder ones and give even uncertain questions your best answer rather than leaving them blank.

Mathematics carries 2 marks per question and often decides ranks, so build speed and accuracy in algebra, calculus, trigonometry and vectors. In Physics and Chemistry, secure the high-frequency, formula-driven topics first. Take full-length, two-paper timed mocks to build the stamina the 90-minute papers demand and to fine-tune time management, and review the worked solution for every question you miss so a mistake is not repeated in the CAP-deciding attempt.
