Who can apply
You need to have passed Class 10 from a recognised board by the cut-off date. The age limit is generally 18 to 23 years, with relaxation for reserved categories. Physical standards (height, and chest for men) and a physical efficiency test apply later, with relaxations for some categories and regions.
What to keep ready before you apply
- Your One-Time Registration on ssc.gov.in. Create it now if you don't have one.
- Your Class 10 certificate. Name and date of birth must match it exactly.
- Category, domicile or ex-servicemen certificates, if they apply to you, valid for this recruitment.
- A recent photo and your signature in the format the notice specifies.
The CBT pattern
The computer-based test has 80 questions for 160 marks in 60 minutes, with 2 marks for each correct answer and 0.5 deducted for each wrong one. The paper is set at Class 10 level.
- General Intelligence & Reasoning: 20 questions, 40 marks.
- General Knowledge & General Awareness: 20 questions, 40 marks.
- Elementary Mathematics: 20 questions, 40 marks.
- English or Hindi (your choice): 20 questions, 40 marks.
Start now, CBT and physical together
With the CBT expected three to five months away, you have time to prepare for both stages. Spend the first two months on concepts in maths and reasoning, and on static GK in short daily blocks. Then switch to timed mocks. Start running every morning from today: the physical test comes soon after the CBT result, and stamina can't be built in a few weeks.
