RRB NTPC Undergraduate 2026: 1,688 posts, applications open till 13 November — and no typing test this time

The Railway Recruitment Boards have opened applications under Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 07/2026 for Non-Technical Popular Categories (Undergraduate) — the 12th-level clerk and ticket posts. Online applications run on rrbapply.gov.in from 15 October to 13 November 2026 (11:59 pm), and the biggest change from earlier cycles is that the typing skill test for the two clerk-typist posts has been dropped.

Posts and vacancies

The notice lists 1,688 posts across all RRBs. The numbers are provisional and can change before selection.

  • Commercial cum Ticket Clerk — Level 3 (₹21,700 initial pay): 700 posts.
  • Junior Clerk cum Typist — Level 2 (₹19,900): 600 posts.
  • Accounts Clerk cum Typist — Level 2 (₹19,900): 200 posts.
  • Trains Clerk — Level 2 (₹19,900): 188 posts.

Key dates

  • Online application: 15 October – 13 November 2026 (11:59 pm).
  • Last date to pay the fee for submitted applications: 15 November 2026.
  • Correction window (with a ₹250 modification fee each time): 16 – 25 November 2026.
  • CBT, document verification and medical dates: to be announced on the RRB websites.

Eligibility

You need 12th (10+2) or equivalent with at least 50% marks in aggregate. The 50% condition is not applied to SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates, or to candidates with a qualification higher than 12th. You must already have passed by 13 November 2026 — candidates awaiting results should not apply.

Age must be 18 to 30 years on 1 January 2027 (born between 2 January 1997 and 1 January 2009 for UR/EWS). The upper limit is relaxed to 33 for OBC (NCL) and 35 for SC/ST, with further relaxations listed in the notice.

Application fee

  • ₹500 for most candidates, including OBC and EWS — ₹400 is refunded (less bank charges) if you appear in the 1st stage CBT.
  • ₹250 for SC, ST, ex-servicemen, PwBD, women, transgender, minority and Economically Backward Class (EBC) candidates — refunded in full (less bank charges) on appearing in the 1st stage CBT.
  • EBC is a separate category from OBC and EWS; you need a valid EBC certificate, BPL card or Izzat MST to claim it.

Selection and exam pattern

Selection is through a 1st stage CBT (screening), a 2nd stage CBT (merit), then document verification and a medical examination. Both CBTs last 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates with a scribe) and deduct 1/3 mark for each wrong answer. Scores are normalised across shifts.

  • 1st stage CBT: 100 questions — General Awareness 40, Mathematics 30, General Intelligence & Reasoning 30.
  • 2nd stage CBT: 120 questions — General Awareness 50, Mathematics 35, General Intelligence & Reasoning 35.
  • No typing skill test: for CEN 07/2026 the Computer Based Typing Skill Test for Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist has been dispensed with. Typing proficiency will be assessed after joining, so you still need it.

A four-week plan before the CBT dates arrive

  • Week 1: Apply, choose your RRB and post preferences carefully (they cannot be changed later), and take one full CBT 1 mock to find your weakest section.
  • Week 2: General Awareness carries 40% of CBT 1 — revise polity, history, geography, science and the last year of current affairs.
  • Week 3: Speed up arithmetic (percentages, ratio, time & work, interest) and reasoning (series, coding, syllogism, directions).
  • Week 4: Two timed mocks a week with strict negative-marking discipline, and keep practising typing — it now counts after joining instead of before.

Key takeaways

  • RRB NTPC Undergraduate (CEN 07/2026): 1,688 posts; apply on rrbapply.gov.in from 15 October to 13 November 2026.
  • 12th with 50% (relaxed for SC/ST/PwBD/ex-servicemen); age 18–30 on 1 January 2027.
  • Fee ₹500 (₹400 refunded after CBT 1) or ₹250 for listed categories (fully refunded after CBT 1).
  • Two CBTs with −1/3 negative marking; the typing skill test has been dropped for this cycle.
