How the result works
RRBs normalise scores across shifts and shortlist candidates for the PET zone-wise and category-wise, at a multiple of the vacancies. The minimum CBT marks are usually 40% for UR and EWS, 30% for OBC-NCL and SC, and 25% for ST, though shortlisting cut-offs are far higher in practice.
The PET standards
The PET is qualifying, but it eliminates many candidates every cycle. Each event is done in one chance.
- Men: lift and carry 35 kg for 100 metres in 2 minutes without putting it down, and run 1,000 metres in 4 minutes 15 seconds.
- Women: lift and carry 20 kg for 100 metres in 2 minutes without putting it down, and run 1,000 metres in 5 minutes 40 seconds.
A training plan until the PET
- Run five days a week. Build from easy 2 km jogs to timed 1,000-metre runs, and practise at your target pace twice a week.
- Practise carrying a weighted bag or water cans over 100 metres three times a week, increasing to your full test weight.
- Rest at least one day a week and do not try new shoes or diets close to the test.
- Keep your documents ready for verification: certificates, category and domicile proof, and photo ID matching your application.
