TSPSC Group I is the top-tier civil services examination conducted by the Telangana State Public Service Commission, headquartered at Hyderabad. It is the gateway to the most senior gazetted administrative careers in the Government of Telangana — posts such as Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Municipal Commissioner, Commercial Tax Officer, District Panchayat Officer and other senior cadres are filled through a single competitive process.

The selection runs across three stages. The Preliminary exam is an objective, OMR-based screening test — a single General Studies & Mental Ability paper — used only to shortlist candidates for the Mains; its marks do not carry forward. Those who clear it sit the descriptive Mains, which comprises several General Studies papers and a qualifying language paper, and the process ends with a Personality Test (Interview). Final merit is built from the Mains written papers and the Interview.

Prelims is a filter, so treat General Studies as the priority: build strong, revisable foundations in Indian and world history, polity and governance, geography, the Indian economy, general science and current affairs, together with a good command of mental ability and aptitude. Because TSPSC weights Telangana heavily, a dedicated grasp of Telangana's history — the Kakatiyas, the Qutb Shahis and Golconda, the Nizams — and of the statehood movement, culture (Bathukamma, Bonalu), geography, rivers and state schemes is often what separates candidates near the cutoff, and is quite distinct from Andhra Pradesh material.

The representative one-third negative marking rewards disciplined attempting: solve what you know, eliminate to a confident choice where you can, and leave questions you genuinely cannot judge. Full-length timed Prelims mocks train pacing and section balance. In parallel, prepare the descriptive Mains early — practise structured General Studies answer-writing and the qualifying language paper — because the written stage plus interview, not Prelims, decide your final rank.
