What is the SSC MTS exam?
SSC MTS is the Staff Selection Commission's recruitment exam for the post of Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff — a Group C non-gazetted post in central government ministries and departments — and for the post of Havaldar in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN). Because it needs only a Class 10 qualification and offers a stable central-government job, it is one of India's largest recruitment exams by number of applicants each year.
The selection is based on a Computer Based Test held in two sessions on the same day. Session I covers Numerical and Mathematical Ability and Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving with no negative marking; Session II covers General Awareness and English Language and Comprehension with a 1-mark penalty for each wrong answer. Candidates applying for Havaldar posts must also clear a Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test. The paper is set at matriculation level, so accuracy and speed on familiar material decide the result.
