A national recruitment exam that selects Sub-Inspectors for the Delhi Police and the Central Armed Police Forces (BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB), giving graduates a direct route into a supervisory uniformed-services post.

What is the SSC CPO exam?

SSC CPO is the Staff Selection Commission's recruitment exam for the post of Sub-Inspector (SI) in the Delhi Police and in the Central Armed Police Forces — the BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP and SSB. Unlike the Constable-level SSC GD, it recruits at a supervisory rank and needs a bachelor's degree, so it draws graduates aiming for a direct-entry officer-track role in the police and paramilitary forces.

The selection has four parts: Paper I (a 60-minute, 100-question Computer Based Test with a 15-minute timer per section, across Reasoning, General Knowledge & Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension), a Physical Standard Test and Physical Endurance Test (PST/PET), Paper II (an English language and comprehension paper), and a Detailed Medical Examination. How to clear SSC CPO

Paper I is graduate level but rewards familiar SSC territory: drill coding-decoding, series, analogy, blood relations and puzzles in Reasoning, and arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration and data interpretation in Quantitative Aptitude until they are quick and automatic. General Awareness is high-return and stable — build static GK across polity, history, geography, economy and science, and keep up with current affairs steadily over time.

English Comprehension rewards grammar, vocabulary, idioms, error spotting and reading comprehension — and it matters twice, since Paper II is an English paper.     GK/GA is high-return and stable. Learn static GK — polity, history, geography, economy and science — a little every day, and revise current affairs regularly rather than cramming.

    English is a Paper I section and the whole of Paper II. Practise error spotting, fill in the blanks, synonyms/antonyms, idioms and reading comprehension so both papers become a reliable source of marks.

    Respect the negative marking

    At −0.25 per wrong answer, blind guessing erodes your score. Attempt when you can eliminate to a confident choice, and leave questions you genuinely can't judge.

    Practise speed with full mocks

    At 100 questions in 60 minutes with a 15-minute lock on each section, Paper I is speed-based. Practise every section against its own 15-minute clock, and review the solution for every question you miss.

    Train for the PST/PET early

    Paper I is only the first stage. Build a running and fitness routine well ahead so the physical standard and endurance tests are a formality, not a fresh challenge.
