What is the SBI SO exam?
SBI SO refers to the State Bank of India's Specialist Officer recruitment — a route through which the bank hires professionals who bring specific domain expertise rather than generalist banking skills. Specialist Officers are recruited for cadres such as information technology, risk management, credit, data analytics, law, and various management functions, on either a regular or a contractual basis depending on the post. Because these roles need particular qualifications and experience, SBI issues separate notifications for different specialist posts throughout the year.
The selection method depends on the post. Some posts are filled through an online written test followed by an interview, while others are filled by shortlisting candidates on their qualifications and experience and then interviewing them. Where a written test is held, it combines a qualifying aptitude portion — Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language — with a scoring Professional Knowledge paper in the specialisation, and carries a one-fourth negative mark for each wrong answer.
