What is the SAIL MT (Technical) exam?
SAIL Management Trainee (Technical) is the Steel Authority of India Limited's recruitment route for graduate engineers. Selected candidates join as Management Trainees, undergo structured training, and on successful completion are appointed as Junior Managers in the E-1 executive grade at SAIL's integrated steel plants — such as Bhilai, Rourkela, Bokaro, Durgapur and IISCO Burnpur — and its mines and units. As one of India's largest Maharatna steel producers under the Ministry of Steel, SAIL offers a stable, growth-oriented public-sector engineering career.
Selection has two main parts: a computer-based written test and a Group Discussion and/or Interview. The written test is an objective paper of 150 questions for 150 marks in 150 minutes, weighted towards the candidate's engineering discipline while also covering quantitative aptitude, reasoning and English, and general awareness. Because there is no negative marking, attempting every question is worthwhile, and depth in the technical section is what separates candidates.
