PTE Academic (the Pearson Test of English — Academic) is a fully computer-based English test that is scored entirely by AI, with no human examiner and no face-to-face interview. It measures four skills — speaking, writing, reading and listening — through twenty integrated task types delivered in one roughly two-hour sitting, and reports a score from 10 to 90 on the Global Scale of English. It is widely accepted for university admission and, notably, for study, work and migration visas in countries such as Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

Two of the three parts are audio-based: in Speaking you talk into a microphone (reading aloud, repeating sentences, describing images, retelling lectures), and in Listening you hear recordings once through a headset before answering. Reading is on-screen and largely selected-response. Because scoring is automated and fast — results usually within 48 hours — clear pronunciation, fluent delivery and precise responses matter as much as accuracy.

In the Listening part you hear each clip once — there is no transcript on the real test — so the skill measured is understanding spoken English in real time: the gist, specific details, and how ideas connect. On ExamguruX, the Listening questions play a spoken clip through your device (you can replay it while practising, and reveal the transcript for review), then ask a question about what you heard, mirroring the real question types such as multiple choice, highlight-correct-summary and select-the-missing-word.

Because PTE is integrated and automatically scored, one task often feeds several skill scores at once — for example, Summarize Spoken Text counts toward both Listening and Writing. That makes familiarity with the task types and disciplined timing especially valuable: knowing exactly what each task expects lets you produce a clean, scorable response quickly.
