What is the OPSC OCS exam?
OPSC OCS is the Odisha Civil Service examination conducted by the Odisha Public Service Commission, headquartered at Cuttack. It is the gateway to gazetted administrative careers in the Government of Odisha — posts such as Deputy Collector in the Odisha Administrative Service, Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Odisha Police Service, Tahasildar, Block Development Officer, District Sub-Registrar and many other Group A and Group B cadres are filled through a single competitive exam each year.
The selection runs across three stages. The Preliminary exam is an objective, OMR-based General Studies paper that only screens candidates for the next stage. Prelims carries a representative one-fourth negative marking. Those who clear it sit the descriptive Mains, which includes a compulsory Odia language paper and a compulsory English paper, an Essay, the General Studies papers and an optional subject, and the process ends with a Personality Test (Interview). Final merit is built from the Mains written papers and the Interview — Prelims marks do not carry forward.
