What is the LIC AAO exam?
LIC AAO is the Life Insurance Corporation of India's recruitment exam for the post of Assistant Administrative Officer, a Class I officer cadre. It recruits both a generalist stream and specialist streams — Chartered Accountant, Legal, IT and Actuarial — for administrative and technical roles across the country's largest life insurer. Because it offers a stable, well-paid officer's career in the public sector, it attracts lakhs of graduate applicants each cycle.
The selection runs in three stages: a Preliminary exam, a Main exam and an interview. The Prelims is a one-hour, 100-mark screening test across Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language (English qualifying), used only to shortlist candidates for the Mains. The Main exam is the scoring stage — an objective paper covering Reasoning, General Knowledge & Current Affairs, Data Analysis & Interpretation, and Insurance & Financial Market Awareness, together with a descriptive test of English and insurance writing. Objective sections carry a one-fourth negative marking, so accuracy under time decides your score.
