What is the Kerala PSC HSST exam?
The Kerala Public Service Commission recruits Higher Secondary School Teachers (HSST) — the teachers who take the Plus One and Plus Two classes in Kerala's higher-secondary schools — through an objective written test. HSST posts are notified subject-wise (for example HSST in a language, science, humanities or commerce subject), and each notification lists the exact subject, qualifications and vacancies. Because a strong rank on the ranked list can lead to a permanent, gazetted teaching job, the HSST examination is highly competitive.
The test is a single objective paper that combines a part on the subject specialisation with general parts on teaching aptitude and pedagogy, general knowledge and current affairs, and languages. A distinctive strength required for HSST is teaching aptitude at the higher-secondary level — educational psychology, methods of teaching, evaluation and the use of ICT — alongside a solid grasp of Indian history and the national freedom movement and of higher-education developments.
