About the Kerala PSC 10th Level Prelims exam

A common screening test for SSLC-level posts — LDC, Last Grade Servants, Village Field Assistant, Civil Police Officer, Fire & Rescue Officer and many more. Candidates who clear it are short-listed for the main examination of each post they applied for.

What is the Kerala PSC 10th Level Prelims?

Kerala PSC holds one common preliminary test for the many SSLC-level posts it notifies each year, instead of a separate first exam for every post. Candidates who applied for any of these posts write the same paper, and PSC then short-lists them post-wise for the main examinations.

The paper is weighted heavily towards general knowledge — 60 of the 100 marks — split into six equal blocks: current affairs, India's geography and economy, the freedom struggle and India after independence, civics and national symbols, Kerala basics, and the Kerala renaissance. Science and arithmetic with mental ability make up the other 40 marks.

How to clear the 10th Level Prelims

Kerala topics — rivers, dams, parks, renaissance leaders and movements — are predictable and carry 20 marks between them, so make them your strongest area. Current affairs changes every year; follow the last 12 months of Kerala and national news, sports and awards.

Because a wrong answer costs a third of a mark, don't guess blindly: attempt questions where you can rule out two options. Practise arithmetic and reasoning until they are quick, and take full timed mocks to train your pace for 100 questions in 75 minutes.

How to prepare for Kerala PSC 10th Level Prelims

A proven, focused Kerala PSC 10th Level Prelims preparation method — from building strong fundamentals to peaking with full-length mocks.

  1. 1

    Own the Kerala blocks

Kerala basics and the renaissance carry 20 marks. Revise rivers, dams, national parks, state symbols, reformers, their organisations and key dates until they are automatic.

  2. 2

    Keep a current-affairs notebook

Ten marks come from recent events. Note national and Kerala news, sports results, awards and science milestones from the last year and revise them weekly.

  3. 3

    Learn science from SSLC textbooks

Human body, vitamins and diseases, and basic physics and chemistry are asked at SSLC level. The State syllabus textbooks cover almost everything.

  4. 4

    Make arithmetic fast

Percentages, LCM/HCF, averages, profit and loss, and speed problems are sure marks once you can solve them in under a minute each.

  5. 5

    Mind the negative mark

Each wrong answer costs 1/3. Attempt a question when you can eliminate at least two options; skip pure guesses.

  6. 6

    Take full timed mocks

Sit complete 100-question mocks in 75 minutes and review every mistake. Each mock here has fresh questions — none repeat.
