IBPS Clerk is the Common Recruitment Process (CRP) conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection to fill clerical-cadre vacancies in the participating public-sector banks — such as Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank, Union Bank of India and others. The State Bank of India runs its own clerk recruitment and is not part of IBPS. Because it needs only a graduate degree and offers a stable banking career, IBPS Clerk is one of the most sought-after government recruitment exams in India, drawing lakhs of applicants each cycle.

The selection has two online stages and no interview. The Preliminary exam is a 1-hour, 100-question paper across English, Numerical Ability and Reasoning Ability, with a 20-minute sectional time limit; it is only qualifying. Candidates who clear it sit the Main exam — a 160-minute, 190-question paper covering General/Financial Awareness, General English, Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude and Quantitative Aptitude. Final merit and provisional bank allotment are based on the Main score together with the candidate's language proficiency.

Speed and accuracy under a sectional clock decide the Preliminary stage, so practise Reasoning and Numerical Ability until common patterns — puzzles, seating, simplification, number series and arithmetic — become quick and automatic. English rewards steady grammar, vocabulary and reading practice. Because each wrong answer costs a quarter mark, disciplined attempting matters: solve what you know first and avoid blind guesses.

The Main exam is where merit is built, and its General/Financial Awareness section is high-return and stable: build banking and financial awareness — the RBI, apex bodies, key financial terms and abbreviations — steadily over time. The added Computer Aptitude questions reward basic computer knowledge. Full-length timed mocks train the section balance and pacing that both stages demand, and reviewing the worked solution for every miss turns practice into marks.
