What is the GPSC State Service exam?
The GPSC State Service examination is conducted by the Gujarat Public Service Commission, headquartered at Gandhinagar, to recruit gazetted Class 1 and Class 2 officers for the Government of Gujarat. Posts such as Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), District Registrar, Mamlatdar, Taluka Development Officer, Section Officer and many other cadres are filled through a single combined competitive exam.
The selection runs across three stages. The Preliminary exam is an objective, OMR-based screening test built around General Studies, and it carries a representative one-third negative-marking scheme. Those who clear it sit the descriptive Mains, which includes a compulsory Gujarati paper and an Essay alongside the General Studies papers, and the process ends with a Personality Test (Interview). Final merit is built from the Mains written papers and the Interview — Prelims marks do not carry forward.
