EPFO Social Security Assistant (SSA) is the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation's recruitment exam for its clerical cadre. The EPFO, which works under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, administers provident fund, pension and insurance schemes for crores of subscribers, and SSAs handle the front-line clerical, data-entry and record-keeping work in its regional and sub-regional offices. Because it needs only a graduate degree and offers a stable central-government clerical career, it draws large numbers of applicants each recruitment cycle.

The selection has three parts: Phase I (Preliminary), an objective paper across English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and General Awareness; Phase II (the Main exam), which is also objective but adds a General/Financial Awareness and computer section; and a computer skill / typing test that is qualifying. The objective papers carry a one-quarter-mark penalty for wrong answers, so accuracy under time is what decides your score, and your combined Prelims-plus-Mains performance decides final merit.

The Prelims is graduate-level but broad rather than deep, so it rewards speed and accuracy across four familiar sections. Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning are the most scoreable — drill simplification, percentage, ratio, interest, series, coding-decoding, puzzles and seating until they are quick and automatic. English rewards clean grammar, vocabulary and comprehension, and can be a reliable source of marks with steady practice.

General Awareness is high-return and stable for the SSA cadre: build general and financial awareness (banking terms, regulators, economic basics), durable static GK and basic computer awareness a little at a time. Because every wrong answer costs a quarter mark, attempt with discipline rather than guessing blindly. Full-length timed mocks build the section balance the paper demands, and consistent typing practice keeps the final skill test a formality.
