1. Month 1

   Understand the paper and build your base

   Read the official pattern first, then make a realistic subject map for 4 subjects. Begin with General Knowledge & Current Affairs, Reasoning & Quantitative Aptitude, English Language. Focus on concepts before speed.

   Take one diagnostic topic test. Its purpose is to find gaps, not to judge your score.
2. Month 2

   Finish the core syllabus through practice

   Cover the remaining syllabus, including Professional / Core Knowledge, while revising Month 1 every week. Move from untimed questions to short timed sets.

   Keep a single error log: concept missed, why it happened and the correct method.
3. Month 3

   Build exam temperament with mocks

   Use the real exam time limit (180 minutes (CBT)) in full-length practice. Review every mock longer than it took to attempt it; the review is where improvement happens.

   Turn each weak area from your error log into a 30–45 minute repair session.

1. 1

   Own your professional paper

   Paper II decides much of the discipline-wise merit. Build deep, reliable fundamentals in your subject — mining, engineering, finance or management — and revise core concepts until they are automatic.

2. 2

   Master mining & safety basics

   For technical disciplines, know opencast vs underground methods, stripping ratio, mine gases and DGMS safety, mining machinery, coal grades, washing and reclamation cold.

3. 3

   Keep GK coal-focused and current

   Track Coal India, its subsidiaries (BCCL, CCL, SECL and others), coal grades and coalfields alongside national current affairs — the GK section leans on the coal and energy sector.

4. 4

   Drill Reasoning and Quant for speed

   Practise series, coding-decoding, arithmetic and data interpretation until they are fast and accurate, so Paper I aptitude becomes a dependable source of marks.

5. 5

   Respect the negative marking

   At −0.25 per wrong answer, blind guessing costs you. Attempt when you can eliminate to a confident choice, and leave questions you genuinely cannot judge.

6. 6

   Practise with full timed mocks

   The 180-minute paper is a stamina test across two papers. Take full timed mocks to learn pacing and section balance, and review the solution for every question you miss.
